Within the framework of cooperation between the Institute of Forestry and Sustainable Development, Thai Nguyen University of Agriculture and Forestry \u2013 Thai Nguyen University, and local authorities in implementing the IKEA Project, on 22 January 2026, a working delegation from the Institute, led by Dr. Do Hoang Chung, Vice Director of the Institute, held a working session with the leadership of Thanh Mai Commune, Vo Nhai District, Thai Nguyen Province.<\/p>\n

Participants included leaders of the People\u2019s Committee of Thanh Mai Commune, representatives of relevant local departments, on-site forest rangers, as well as a large number of local residents, forest owners, and representatives of forest-growing cooperatives in the area. On the Institute\u2019s side, the delegation comprised researchers and experts in charge of the project\u2019s technical components.<\/p>\n

At the meeting, the delegation introduced an overview of the IKEA Project, its key objectives in sustainable forest development, enhancing forest resource management capacity, supporting livelihoods, and promoting forestry value chains. The technical contents presented included international forest certification systems (FSC\/PEFC), traceability requirements, support packages for households and cooperatives, and forestry technical guidelines aligned with sustainability standards.<\/p>\n

During the discussion session, representatives of local residents and cooperatives raised challenges encountered in forest planting, tending, and timber marketing, as well as issues related to certification procedures, documentation, and market linkages. These concerns were thoroughly addressed by the delegation and recorded for incorporation into subsequent project implementation plans.<\/p>\n

The working session in Thanh Mai Commune helped local stakeholders gain a clearer understanding of the economic, social, and environmental benefits brought by the project, while enabling the Institute to directly capture the practical needs of local communities, thereby adjusting support activities in a more appropriate and effective manner.<\/p>\n

This activity represents an important step in strengthening cooperation among the Institute \u2013 Local Authorities \u2013 Communities \u2013 Cooperatives, toward the goals of sustainable forest development, income enhancement, and livelihood stability for local people, contributing to socio-economic development in Thanh Mai Commune within the framework of the IKEA Project.<\/p>\n
