Research, conservation, and development of genetic resources of valuable medicinal plants with high economic value contribute to crop restructuring, hunger eradication, and poverty reduction in Ha Giang province.<\/p>\n

Recently, Thai Nguyen University has completed the program \u201cResearch on Conservation and Development of Genetic Resources of Valuable Medicinal Plants with High Economic Value in Ha Giang Province\u201d and published scientific products.<\/p>\n

The research activities were conducted over 36 months with the support and cooperation of the Institute for Forestry Research and Development, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Ha Giang Province, and the Vietnam Joint Stock Company for Agroforestry and Environmental Development.<\/p>\n

Professor-Dr. Dang Kim Vui, former Secretary of the Party Committee and former Director of Thai Nguyen University, was the principal investigator of this research program.<\/p>\n

Scientists at Thai Nguyen University are diligently working in the laboratory.<\/p>\n

Ha Giang province is considered a key area for diverse valuable medicinal plants with high economic value. It is also a focal point for developing medicinal plant cultivation in association with highland ecotourism. However, currently, rare medicinal plants are being overexploited, and many species are at risk of extinction.<\/p>\n

Despite possessing a rich genetic resource of medicinal plants, Ha Giang does not have a conservation garden for storage and research on high-quality medicinal plant genetics. The conservation and development of medicinal plants in the province face many challenges, from seed selection to cultivation and harvesting.<\/p>\n

Furthermore, the demand for high-yield, high-quality, and stable medicinal plant varieties for large-scale cultivation, processing, and preservation under GACP-WHO standards is increasing globally and in Vietnam. This is particularly true for valuable medicinal plants with high economic potential and significant domestic and export demand.<\/p>\n

Recognizing these practical requirements, scientists at Thai Nguyen University consider research, conservation, and development of medicinal plants\u2014especially valuable ones with high economic significance\u2014as an urgent issue. The application of advanced technology in conservation and propagation is seen as an effective solution to the challenges in medicinal plant development.<\/p>\n

The research team conducted studies on six plant species: Polygonatum kingianum, Amomum tsao-ko, Codonopsis pilosula (Northern Dang Shen), Lonicera japonica (Japanese honeysuckle), Zingiber zerumbet (Rock Ginger), and Sarcandra glabra. These are all valuable medicinal plants listed in the Red Book, classified as endangered and requiring conservation and development, with high market demand. They are also priority species for development by companies investing in the northern mountainous regions.<\/p>\n

Thai Nguyen University\u2019s Contribution to Science and Economic Development<\/h3>\n

Thai Nguyen University plays a crucial role in scientific research and technology transfer, contributing to the economic, political, cultural, and social development of the midland and northern mountainous regions. It undertakes research, training, consultation, and technology transfer, particularly in forest plant breeding, natural resource management, and environmental protection.<\/p>\n

The Institute for Forestry Research and Development was established to fulfill this mission. The institute is equipped with modern laboratories, experimental research stations, and tissue culture laboratories.<\/p>\n

The institute has a highly qualified team, ranging from college graduates, engineers, and bachelor’s degree holders to postgraduates and a team of professors, associate professors, and doctors with diverse expertise in research and application fields.<\/p>\n

In over five years since its establishment, the institute has conducted many national-level research projects and achieved significant results, especially within programs assigned by the Ministry of Education and Training.<\/p>\n

The research program of Thai Nguyen University has achieved significant effectiveness in both education and socio-economic aspects.<\/p>\n

The \u201cResearch on Conservation and Development of Genetic Resources of Valuable Medicinal Plants with High Economic Value in Ha Giang Province\u201d by scientists at Thai Nguyen University aims to research, conserve, and develop genetic resources of valuable medicinal plants while contributing to crop restructuring, hunger eradication, and poverty alleviation in the region.<\/p>\n

Specifically, the research team evaluated and selected high-quality genetic resources from six medicinal plant species to establish:<\/p>\n
