Wind Ginger (Zingiber Zerumbet Sm<\/em>), also known as Wild Galangal, Forest Ginger, or Green Turmeric, is a species in the Zingiber<\/em> genus that holds significant value in both medicine and the food industry. It is widely used as a flavoring agent in the production of various products, such as cakes, candies, jams, teas, beverages, and traditional ethnic dishes. Additionally, Wind Ginger is a precious medicinal herb used in the treatment of liver diseases.<\/p>\n

Wind Ginger contains a high amount of essential oil, with approximately 13% monoterpenes and sesquiterpenes. Most notably, it contains up to 37.5% zerumbone, an active compound that not only inhibits the growth of Micrococcus pyogenes var. aureus<\/em> and Mycobacterium tuberculosis<\/em> but also prevents the formation of free radicals responsible for protein mutations in the pre-infection stage, thereby inhibiting cancer cell mutations. Currently, there is a growing trend towards using herbal-based medicines instead of chemical drugs. Due to its high medicinal value, Wind Ginger root commands a high market price, ranging from 700,000 to 1,000,000 VND per kilogram. Consequently, the population of this species has been rapidly declining. In response to this situation, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has listed Wind Ginger as a rare and valuable food plant requiring conservation, under Decision No. 80\/2005\/Q\u0110-BNN.<\/p>\n

Currently, the Institute of Forestry Research and Development<\/strong> has successfully applied plant cell technology to propagate Wind Ginger through in vitro<\/em> methods. This research confirms that Wind Ginger can be effectively propagated using tissue culture techniques. The production process is straightforward, yields a high propagation coefficient, and ensures that the morphology and aroma of the propagated plants remain unchanged compared to the original mother plants. This breakthrough has addressed the issue of plant supply shortages.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
