Date

On the morning of May 9, 2025, Thai Nguyen University of Agriculture and Forestry (TNUAF) hosted an academic sharing event on “Potential for Collaboration in Climate Change Research and Action Planning: Capacity Building and In-Depth Research on Landscape Restoration and Carbon Credits”, organized by the Institute of Forestry and Sustainable Development.

The event was attended by Prof. Dr. Markku Kanninen – Climate Change Expert and Nobel Peace Prize Laureate (2007, for work on climate change) from the University of Helsinki, Finland; Mr. Dipjoy Chakma – Project Coordinator of the FORSU-ERASMUS+ program at the University of Helsinki, Finland; representatives of the leadership from TNUAF, the Institute of Forestry and Sustainable Development; leaders and students from the Advanced Education Program at TNUAF; faculty members, staff, and invited guests.

In the opening remarks, representatives of the leadership of TNUAF and the Institute of Forestry and Sustainable Development warmly welcomed the visiting delegation and emphasized the importance of academic exchange between universities and research institutions in addressing today’s pressing climate challenges.

During the event, Prof. Dr. Markku Kanninen shared key findings from his research on climate change, including adaptation and mitigation strategies, methods of carbon measurement, and carbon credit systems – topics that are currently receiving significant attention globally.

Prof. Dr. Tran Thi Thu Ha, Director of the Institute of Forestry and Sustainable Development, presented the strategic development of educational materials and programs on forest landscape restoration and climate change. She also emphasized the value of academic collaboration between universities, research institutions, and effective communication methods for delivering climate-related knowledge to learners and communities.

Through expert presentations and academic discussions, the event yielded important outcomes in the strategy for developing teaching materials on forest landscape restoration, carbon measurement, and the future direction of collaborative research on climate change adaptation and mitigation between the University of Helsinki and TNUAF, along with the Institute of Forestry and Sustainable Development.

This event is part of a series of activities to build research networks and academic exchange under the project “Forest Landscape Restoration and Sustainable Livelihoods in Bangladesh and Vietnam (FORSU),” jointly implemented by Thai Nguyen University of Agriculture and Forestry, the University of Helsinki (Finland), the University of Freiburg (Germany), and partner universities in Vietnam and Bangladesh./.
