On June 9, 2015, in Hanoi, the General Department of Forestry, in collaboration with the Institute for Forestry Research and Development – Thai Nguyen University of Agriculture and Forestry, organized a workshop.
The workshop aimed to gather feedback for the improvement of training materials, regulations, and a handbook on the collection, management, use, and sharing of forestry plant variety database information.
Attending the workshop were representatives from the General Department of Forestry, including Mr. Trieu Van Luc, Director of the Forest Development Department, representatives from the Institute for Forestry Research and Development – Thai Nguyen University of Agriculture and Forestry, as well as nearly 60 delegates from forestry plant variety management units across the country and forestry plant breeding experts.

The objective of the workshop was to collect input for finalizing two key documents of the project on building a forestry plant variety database in Vietnam:
-
Training materials and capacity-building programs for collecting, analyzing, synthesizing, and processing forestry plant variety information.
-
Regulations and a handbook on the collection, management, use, and sharing of forestry plant variety database information.
At the workshop, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Thi Thu Ha, Director of the Institute for Forestry Research and Development and representative of the consulting unit, presented four reports on the achieved results.

The outcomes of the workshop served as an important foundation for improving Vietnam’s forestry plant variety database system, enhancing the efficiency of forestry plant variety management and development, and completing the Forestry Sector Management Information System (FORMIS) in Vietnam.

The workshop concluded successfully, incorporating contributions from experts and management officials to refine the training materials, regulations, and the handbook on the collection, management, use, and sharing of forestry plant variety database information.
