Seminar on “Sharing Results of Research on Technical Solutions for Climate Change Adaptation”

Date

On May 23, 2024, the “Learning Center for Emission Neutrality and Climate Resilience in Northern Vietnam” (LEARN-VN Project) organized a seminar on “Sharing Results of Research on Technical Solutions for Climate Change Adaptation.” The seminar aimed to objectively assess the relevance of various technical solutions for climate change adaptation (CCA), with the participation and contributions of approximately 40 delegates.

Prof. Dr. Nguyễn Thế Hùng, Chairman of the Council of Thai Nguyen University of Agriculture and Forestry (TUAF), welcomed the delegates and expressed his hope that they would provide high-quality evaluations to contribute to the development of the climate learning center. This initiative aligns with Vietnam’s commitment at COP-26 to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050.

Following an introduction to the LEARN-VN Project and the Climate Park by Dr. Nguyễn Quang Tân, National Coordinator of the World Agroforestry (ICRAF) organization in Vietnam, the delegates listened to presentations from the LEARN-VN project team. These presentations covered:

  • A framework for reviewing CCA models/solutions across various sectors,

  • Results of the review on land use and forestry models/solutions,

  • Models/solutions in agriculture and agroforestry,

  • Models/solutions in the energy sector,

  • Models/solutions for waste management,

  • Models/solutions for water and green infrastructure.

Additionally, the project team highlighted research gaps in climate change and introduced the criteria for evaluating these models/solutions. Delegates participated in group discussions to assess the models/solutions based on these criteria and provided various insights to help the LEARN-VN team consolidate the findings into a comprehensive picture. Key discussion points included:

  • The application of indigenous knowledge from ethnic minority communities,

  • Incentives to facilitate easy adoption of solutions without increasing production costs and labor,

  • Market linkages and other valuable perspectives.

The LEARN-VN project team considers these discussions a valuable reference to develop effective and practical models/solutions for climate change adaptation.
