As part of the “Enhancing Climate Change Education for Sustainable Development in Vietnam” (CLIDEV) project, Thai Nguyen University of Agriculture and Forestry (TUAF) participated in the training course “Drone and LiDAR Technologies for Restoring Tropical Forest Ecosystems” from July 24-26, 2024, at Chiang Mai University, Thailand. The training aimed to provide educational tools and practical, innovative pedagogical methods on Climate Change through capacity-building activities for trainers and the development of strategic courses.
Skills covered during the training included: Flight planning using Litchi and GS Pro software; LiDAR scanning and data processing to create 3D models and orthophotos using Agisoft Metashape and Cloud Compare; Techniques for measuring tree height from the ground and by drone using Pix4D; The use of RTK multispectral drones and heavy-lift drones in forest restoration.
These technologies have significantly improved data collection accuracy and increased forest management efficiency while enhancing education quality and supporting sustainable environmental conservation.
