Training Workshop on Climate Change and Mitigation Measures through Agricultural Production

Date

From June 3 to 6, 2025, the Institute of Forestry and Sustainable Development (under Thai Nguyen University of Agriculture and Forestry – Thai Nguyen University), in collaboration with the Thai Nguyen Agricultural Extension Center, organized a training workshop themed “Climate Change and Mitigation Measures through Agricultural Production.” The workshop was held across eight communes in Thai Nguyen province: On Luong, Phuc Xuan, Phu Xuyen, Phu Thinh, Phuc Trieu, Phu Ly, Co Lung, and Son Cam, attracting large participation with approximately 100 participants per commune. This workshop formed part of the LEARN-VN project’s communication and knowledge dissemination efforts on climate change.

The workshop aimed to raise awareness among rural residents, especially farmers directly engaged in production, about the increasing impacts of climate change on their lives and livelihoods. It also introduced sustainable agricultural solutions to help reduce greenhouse gas emissions and enhance adaptation to increasingly harsh climate conditions.

During each training session, lecturers from the LEARN–VN project shared practical knowledge tailored to the production needs of local people. Training content focused on analyzing the impacts of climate change on crop and livestock production cycles, highlighting manifestations such as prolonged droughts, irregular floods, early pest outbreaks—all of which directly affect agricultural productivity and quality. In addition, experts guided participants on applying climate-smart agricultural practices, such as cover cropping, using drought- and flood-tolerant plant varieties, improving livestock farming techniques to reduce methane emissions, utilizing agricultural by-products to produce organic fertilizers, developing circular VAC (Garden – Pond – Livestock) models, and especially adopting green living habits in daily life.

Beyond theoretical learning, the workshops created a space for farmers to share experiences, exchange production practices, and discuss concrete solutions suited to the natural, economic, and social conditions of each locality. The two-way interaction between instructors and participants made the knowledge more accessible and practically applicable to local production realities.

The workshop series demonstrated the LEARN–VN project’s commitment to bringing scientific knowledge closer to local communities, fostering changes from awareness to action in rural areas. This activity not only helps farmers better adapt to climate change but also gradually moves towards low-emission agricultural production—a key target in Vietnam’s COP26 commitments.

In the coming period, the LEARN–VN project will continue expanding communication, training, and technical support activities in other localities, contributing to building a sustainable, adaptive, and environmentally responsible agricultural sector.
