May 3, 2024, at Thai Nguyen University of Agriculture and Forestry: Launching the “Learning Center for Emission Neutrality and Climate Resilience in Northern Vietnam” Project

The launch event of the “Learning Center for Emission Neutrality and Climate Resilience in Northern Vietnam” (LEARN-VN) Project marks a significant step in supporting Vietnam’s commitment at COP-26 to achieving carbon neutrality by 2050.

On May 3, 2024, at Thai Nguyen University of Agriculture and Forestry (TUAF), the LEARN-VN Project was officially launched. The event was attended by representatives from the Ministry of Education and Training, the People’s Committee of Thai Nguyen Province, provincial departments and agencies, as well as stakeholders and students from TUAF’s agricultural faculty. Additionally, representatives from Bread for the World (BftW), the project’s sponsor, along with TUAF, the World Agroforestry Center (ICRAF), and the Institute of Forestry and Sustainable Development (IFS), participated as project implementing partners.

During the event, Dr. Nguyễn Quang Tân, National Coordinator of ICRAF Vietnam, provided an overview of the project, highlighting key upcoming activities aimed at achieving the expected outcomes by the end of the project. These include:
(i) The adoption of context-specific climate change mitigation and adaptation practices by local communities and authorities in the project area.
(ii) Climate solutions promoted by the project being recommended to provincial authorities for consideration and potential implementation.
(iii) Submission of the infrastructure investment approval dossier for the Learning Center for Climate to the relevant authorities for evaluation.

As part of the event, the project also launched a logo design competition to encourage creativity and engage the public in learning about climate change through an interactive experience. The competition is open to everyone, with a submission deadline from May 3, 2024, to June 3, 2024.

The LEARN-VN Project is designed as a long-term initiative, with a vision for establishing a climate learning center in future phases. This center will serve as an accessible hub for climate-related knowledge and actions, allowing local communities to take a leadership role in natural resource management. It will also facilitate multi-stakeholder networking and partnerships while connecting with global climate networks.
